Fever Blisters Home Remedy ~ Gets Rid of Cold Sores

My easy-to-make Fever Blisters Home Remedy is cheap and effective. And, for those in parts of the world where fever blisters are called ‘cold sores’, let me assure you my Fever Blisters Home Remedy gets rid of cold sores! (What is it they say about ‘a rose by any other name’?)

I’m American so I write about my Fever Blisters Home Remedy.

Readers in the UK and Australia and other parts of the world just need to know fever blisters are the same thing you call cold sores. We’ll talk about ways to avoid them, and ways to treat them.

But first, I’ll share my special fever blister home remedy. You can treat your fever blisters / cold sores the same natural and effective way.

Lemon Balm Easy Fever Blisters Home Remedy

The recipe to create your very own easy Fever Blisters Home Remedy is very simple! The recipe will yield quite a bit.

And unless you live in extreme conditions, this all-natural remedy will be shelf stable for a year or longer.

Fresh Lemon Balm

If you have fresh lemon balm in your garden, pick it to use in my Fever Blisters Home Remedy.

You Will Need:

  • A pot
  • 3-4 tbs Lemon Balm chopped (dried or fresh)
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
  • Mesh strainer (or cheesecloth)
  • Sterile container with lid

Recipe Instructions

  1. Place 1/2 cup coconut oil into pot, over med/low heat.
  2. Once coconut oil has liquefied, add 3-4 tablespoons of lemon balm.
  3. Allow to slowly simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Turn off burner, and strain into sterilized container, allow to cool.

Illustrated Guide to My Fever Blisters Home Remedy

Begin by gathering what you’ll need.

In addition to a small pot for heating the ingredients, you’ll need a mesh strainer and small sterile jars. There are only two ingredients in my Fever Blisters Home Remedy; coconut oil, lemon balm.

Coconut Oil (Organic)

I choose organic coconut oil for my Fever Blisters Home Remedy.

Dried Lemon Balm for Fever Blisters Home Remedy

In the growing season I use fresh lemon balm from my garden. Other times I use dried lemon balm.

Mesh strainer for Fever Blisters Home Remedy

My mesh strainer gets lots of use, as you can see by the handle. This type of strainer rests easily over containers.

Clean storage jar for Fever Blisters Home Remedy

Small jars are best for my Fever Blisters Home Remedy. Sterile and ready to fill!

Now watch how easy it is to create your own home remedy for fever blisters (cold sores)!

Step 1:  Place 1/2 cup coconut oil into pot, over med/low heat.

Step 3:  Allow to slowly simmer for 20 minutes.

Pouring Fever Blisters Home Remedy

Carefully pour your fresh Fever Blisters Home Remedy through the mesh strainer into storage jar.

Step 4:  Turn off burner, and strain into sterilized container. Allow to cool.

Finished Home Remedy

The finished product will have a green color. But when applied over a fever blister, it looks like a nice shiny clear lip gloss.

Once the coconut oil has a chance to completely cool and solidify again, it is ready to use. Small inexpensive travel containers work well. Usually most dollar stores have jars suitable for lip balms. The remedy can be carried in your purse.

Storing your freshly-made Fever Blisters Home Remedy in the refrigerator is not necessary. However applying it straight from the fridge can be very soothing.

This batch was made with dried lemon balm. Fresh lemon balm gives a greener tinge to the finished product.

Why I Use Coconut Oil in my Fever Blisters Home Remedy

I prefer using coconut oil in my Fever Blisters Home Remedy. Here’s why:

  • Coconut oil stays solid at room temperature. (Great for making balms and salves at home.)
  • Coconut oil adds its own medicinal properties to the fever blister remedy.
  • Extra coconut oil won’t sit wasted. You can use it in cooking.

Beeswax works very well in this recipe as well. But it is more expensive than coconut oil.

Why Do I Get Fever Blisters?

Fever blisters, and cold sores plague and irritate people all over the world. Fever blisters are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 . While a fever blister is present it is highly contagious, and often passed through kissing. Once infected the virus remains and many will suffer recurrent outbreaks throughout their entire lives.

Many things can trigger the onset of a fever blister outbreak such as:

  • chapped lips
  • colds
  • fevers
  • emotional stress
  • injuries
  • being exposed to sunlight

Treatment Options For Fever Blisters

There are many over the counter and even prescription medications available to treat ever blisters and cold sores. Some come in a lip balm, and many come in tubes as a cream.

Most leave an ugly white spot for everyone to see (as if the fever blister was not bad enough on its own).

Medications for fever blisters all range in price. Though they all do tend to be a bit on the expensive side. There is no cure for the virus that causes fever blisters / cold sores. An FDA approved vaccine researchers have been working on is still just a dream.

My effective Fever Blisters Home Remedy using lemon balm works well for me. It is soothing and helps speed up recovery, so it remains my #1 treatment option. Grow your own lemon balm next season!

How to Prevent Future Fever Blisters Outbreaks

  1. Always wash hands prior to applying the remedy or use a fresh Q tip, to avoid contamination.
  2. Replace your tooth brush as soon as a fever blister dries up.
  3. Avoid kissing, sharing foods or utensils. (You can keep passing fever blisters back and forth. Even if your partner, family or friends do not get one, you can cause yourself another outbreak.)
  4. Avoid touching your face. Fever blisters can also appear on the nostrils, cheeks, and chin.
  5. Use good personal hygiene. Wash your hands often. You touch your face more often than you think!
  6. Avoid emotional stress triggers if at all possible. (Not always easy. Some stages in life seem to be filled with emotional stress triggers!)
  7. Use a lip balm, or chap-stick with a built in sunblock. Apply sunblock to your face, or avoid sun exposure.
  8. Avoid using cosmetics while you have a fever blister. This prevents your make up from becoming contaminated.
  9. Carry a small bottle of my fever blisters remedy. At the first hint of a problem area, apply it.

By creating your creating your own batch of my fever blisters home remedy, you can package it in different sized containers. Carry a small bottle with you. Give some to friends. Enjoy using it. Not only when you have cold sores / fever blisters.

The moisturising qualities of coconut oil combined with health benefits of lemon balm make this a special treat for your skin. You can use this home remedy to treat dry skin on your hands, feet, elbows and legs. Use it on your face as an overnight moisturiser.

Just be sure to wash it off before going out in the sun. In harsh sunlight the coconut oil might contribute to sunburn.

Why I Use My Fever Blisters Home Remedy

After years of suffering from fever blisters and spending a fortune on medications, I realized they were not actually doing much at all.

Even using costly prescription medications, the fever blisters lingered for as long as two weeks. (The time it takes for the virus to run its course anyway.)

They were painful and an eyesore on an otherwise pleasant smile. I was tired of wasting money on treatments that did not work. That’s why I decided to explore more natural options. I get much better results from my Fever Blisters Home Remedy. It is easy to make, and the products come straight from nature. If you can access organic coconut oil and grow your own lemon balm, that makes it even better!
